An interesting look back Oct. 7th, 2013 @ 09:34 pm
A month in and now I realise just how depressed I was for the last few years.

I don't dread the coming days, feel so much more energy and have found that I am eating less. And this is in spite of having a horrible computer chair and a mattress that you could probably survive a nuke if you hid under it.

Here's hoping for good luck in the future, and I am going to do my damned hardest to not end up back in that situation.

Exeter Sep. 15th, 2013 @ 07:04 pm
Have now moved into accommodation in Exeter to start my course this/next week (there is some vagueness about when the first mandatory lecture/seminar/whatever is that I shall have to sort out tomorrow).

Internet is good and unblocked. Shower is slow to warm up and tolerable. Local water is of no consequence as I have a water filter. Next to train tracks, but the trains aren't too loud when they pass unless they sound their horn. Even then it's still fairly quiet.

Things to do this week:
Find part time job
Contemplate joining societies
Not miss anything mandatory

If all goes well, I shall be employed by the end of the month and be eating things other than pasta and rice. If not, well I guess it's a good thing I know how to make several different sauces for pasta and rice.

Blasted muse, SHUT UP! Jun. 18th, 2013 @ 10:00 pm
The last 3 weeks I've had ideas for an MMORPG slamming through my head. Ideas of how to code, design for gameplay mechanics, races and world design...

I've had enough and installed JDK and NetBeans. If this is like any other of my muse-moments, I'll get three or four classes coded and the inspiration will die off and I'll get to do bugger all again.

And yes, I am well aware that Java is probably the worst language to code an MMO in. I have no intention of seeing this through to fruitition, hell I cannot even remember getting net-code to work in Java ever. This is just something to while away the time since there are no games out atm that really grab me and to get that blasted muse to shut up.

Apocalypse Kitten May. 24th, 2013 @ 06:43 pm
So an update of stuff

Flatmate's cat died several months back, and about a month ago he replaced with two girl kittens. The larger of the sisters is a laid-back, affectionate food-guzzling thing that for the last two weeks has been acting like she's in heat. The smaller is the one I have nick-named Mayan Apocalypse, as she's managed to con the flatmate that she was stuck up a tree surrounded by bramble and nettles. She also is a bit wild and has a tendency to pounce on anything moving. I like her best.

I've gotten a conditional offer on the Uni course I want to be on. Just have to pass a background check and my current course and I'm on it.

Was my birthday earlier this week. Not much to say about it.

To all the awesome smart people in the world Feb. 10th, 2013 @ 05:06 pm
All you academics in the world,

I think it's awesome that you give us what to cite at the bottom of your websites now. Don't know how long it's been going on but I don't remember seeing it at all a decade ago when I was in school. Makes it so much simpler to make sure we're giving you guys the credit you deserve.

Thanks from all us students

» Oh the weather outside is frightful...
And the snow is sure delightful
But I got to go to work some more

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

A full five minute walks a bother
And the hill not gritted either
But the whip master calls me forth

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

By the third minute I'll be bored
As we all stand in store on our own
The staff all stalk the shelves and rails
While the managers shuffle and moan

While the road turn to slushy ice
We will push our silky vice
To all the ghost and ghouls unbound

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
» Passport get

Passport arrived today. Very pretty pictures inside. Must be to offset people feeling screwed over by the cost. Also not sure if this photo is worse than last one.

» (No Subject)

Flat mate's laptop died a few days back and I have sorted him a temporary solution using a spare desktop and my old CRT monitor. His cat has decided the monitor is an excellent place to nap. : )

» That magical time of the decade

Passport renewal time. Sent and should be paid for. Now that awkward time of waiting to see if those prats find a reason to reject my application.
